Kenya Packing List

What should I bring with me on my mission to Kenya?

    • Passport & picture ID (Driver’s license)

    • Copy of passport & picture ID (Driver’s license)

    • Copy of eVisa

    • Copy of front/back of any credit cards, medical card, immunization records

    • Cell phone and charger - CBC is not liable for any damage, phone overage charges or theft to devices. Cell usage should be kept to a minimum during the mission trip week.

    • Shower towel

    • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, hairbrush, comb, razor etc. No curling irons or blow dryers please.)

    • Cash ($200-$225 USD to be converted into Kenyan Shillings) and credit card

  • Enough for 5-7 days (No machine washer available onsite; washing will be by hand only; bring laundry detergent or bar soap, such as Zote, which can be purchased on Amazon or at an Asian store)

    Boots or other sturdy shoes

    Jeans, cargo pants, knee-length shorts (long basketball or other)

    T-shirts, lightweight long sleeve shirt or SPF-protected shirts

    Baseball cap or safari hat

    For Mass: Men - nice shorts/pants with shirt; Women - nice shorts/skirt/dress (no low cut blouses)

    Comfortable shoes, sandals for evenings (optional), shower shoes

    Pajamas, robe, slippers, or flip flops (it will be 60-65F at night, so please plan PJs accordingly)

    Sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses

    Jacket or sweatshirt and warm clothing for evenings & early mornings (65F)

    Work gloves (leather is best)

    Safety goggles

    • Nalgene/similar water bottle (with screw-on top)

    • Bible, notebook, pencil/pen, stationary (optional)

    • Holder for passport/money, fanny pack, or backpack; travel pillow (optional)

    • Power converter

    • Flashlight (optional)

    • Medications: aspirin, ibuprofen, motion sickness pills, anti-diarrhea (Imodium), antibiotics (Cipro), itch relief cream, band-aids, antibiotic cream (Neosporin), Pepto-bismol, Tums etc.

    • Power bars, dried or dehydrated fruit, trail mix, nuts and seeds, snack crackers, beef jerky, something sweet for the evening team meeting (gummy bears, skittles, M&M’s, etc.)

    • Deck of playing cards, Uno, or other game for evening fellowship

  • Luggage

    You will be able to check one piece of luggage and bring one carry-on plus one smaller personal bag or purse. Make sure to pack 1-2 outfits in your carry-on in the event you are separated from your luggage for a period of time. Liquids & gels in a carry-on must be 3oz. or less & placed in a single quart-size ziplock bag. Larger liquids & gels need to be taped to prevent leakage, double bagged in case of spillage, and checked with larger bag.

    Foreign Currency

    Suggestion to bring $200-$225 USD and exchange into KSH (Kenyan Shillings) at Addis Ababa Airport or upon arrival in Nairobi to pay for Safari Park ($73) and gifts, souvenirs, etc. Street vendors will require cash.
