Dominican Republic Packing List

What should I bring with me on my mission to Banica?

    • Passport & picture ID (Driver’s license)

    • Copy of passport & picture ID (Driver’s license)

    • Copy of front/back of any credit cards, medical card, immunization records

    • Cell phones, devices, charger - CBC is not liable for any damage, phone overage charges or theft to devices. Cell usage should be kept to a minimum during the mission trip week.

    • Toiletries (soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush, comb, razor etc. No curling irons or blow dryers please)

    • Cash or credit card

    • Reusable face or cloth masks for 5-7 days

    • Enough for 5-7 days (you can wash and re-wear things)

    • Long pants, capris, knee-length shorts (No short shorts, no yoga pants, no tight-fitting pants)

    • T-shirts/short sleeve shirts (No tank tops)

    Evening Mass:

    guys- pants/polo shirt (no shorts)

    gals – slacks/skirt/dress (no low cut blouses)

    • Comfortable shoes, sandals for evenings (optional), shower shoes

    • Pajamas, robe, slippers, or flip flops (it will be 60-65F at night, so please plan PJ’s accordingly)

    • Hat for working in the sun, sunscreen, sunglasses

    • Jacket or sweatshirt and warm clothing for evenings & early mornings (65F)

    • Work gloves (leather is best), sweatband, sturdy shoes, jeans or cargo pants, lightweight long sleeve shirt (optional)

    • Nalgene/similar water bottle (with screw-on top)

    • Bible, notebook, pencil/pen, stationary; English/Spanish dictionary (optional)

    • Holder for passport/money, fanny pack, or backpack; travel pillow (optional)

    • Power converter and flashlight (optional)

    • Insect repellent

    • Medications: aspirin, ibuprofen, motion sickness pills, anti-diarrhea (Imodium), antibiotics (Cipro), itch relief cream, band-aids, antibiotic cream (Neosporin), Pepto-bismol, Tums etc.

  • power bars, cookies, peanuts, snack crackers, beef jerky, trail mix etc. (Please don’t bring anything that could melt (i.e. chocolate). Also, please don’t over-pack on snacks, there are many small grocery stores close to the parish.

  • Suitcase: You will be able to check one piece of luggage and bring one carry-on plus one smaller personal bag or purse. Make sure to pack 1-2 outfits in your carry-on in the event you are separated from your luggage for a period of time. Liquids & gels in a carry-on must be 3oz. or less & placed in a single quart-size ziplock bag. Larger liquids & gels need to be taped to prevent leakage, double bagged in case of spillage, and checked with larger bag.

    • Travel schedule, CBC and Emergency contact phone numbers left with family/friends.

    Foreign Currency (money): There are ATMs at the airports where you can withdraw/exchange money, but once we get to the mission site you may not have time to exchange money. It would be best to get your bank to exchange $50-$100 USD into foreign currency for spending money while we’re there.
