“We are blessed by the missionaries of CBC, who come to Santisimo Sacramento in Piura, Peru. Your generosity, faith, kindness - really we are bound together in Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Light.”
— Fr. Joseph Uhen, Pastor of Santisimo Sacramento Catholic Church
Santisimo Sacramento, the Catholic mission parish in Piura, provides food packages to poor families, donated clothing, building materials, access to medical care, heavily subsidized private education, orphanages for abandoned children, and many other important services for the people of Piura, in addition to caring for the spiritual needs of the Parish. During your stay in Piura, you will have the opportunity to meet the people of the parish, celebrate Mass with them, and work in a few of the several social service projects the parish is carrying out to improve the standard of living for the poorest people in the community.
CBC’s mission trip to Santisimo Sacramento is a transforming journey, drawing the missionary closer to Christ through serving some of the poorest of His poor. Many people of Piura, Peru and the surrounding villages lack the basic necessities of life. Some go without food or clean water whenever there is a drought. Others have no access to the medical care they need. Many of the surrounding rural villages lack the basic necessities that we take for granted every day like electricity, drinking water, or a bathroom.
This program associates a needy Peruvian family with a "padrino" family (from the U.S.A or anywhere). The "padrino" family provides a $30.00 food package each month (so it costs $360.00 per year). The Peruvian family is very grateful for this aid and holds their padrinos in their prayers. Letters and photos can be exchanged, packages can be sent, even visits to Piura to spend some time with the Peruvian family can occur. This relationship responds to the Gospel message, "I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was naked and you clothed me, I was without shelter..." Tremendous hope and true joy touch the lives of both families participating in this program. The relationship between families is cared for by social workers at Santisimo Sacramento parish who are able to respond to inquiries and facilitate life-giving communication.
